I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself

It is getting cold in the mornings this time of year. The fog is becoming a more consistent visitor in the mornings as well. These birds seem to know how to cope.

Cold Birds

I never saw a wild thing
sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough
without ever having felt sorry for itself.

This shot is just as captured in camera, with only a little sharpening. The glow through the fog behind the birds is just the natural lighting. Awesome, right? I had to use a high ISO and image stabilization to capture this image. Even with a tripod, the birds were moving too much to get a sharp image otherwise.

And here is the poem by D. H. Lawrence that I quoted in the title of this post along with links to others.
